In this week’s instalment of #AccessCinemaAtHome, German drama Styx is our offering.

Styx depicts the transformation of a strong woman torn from her contented world during a sailing trip. When she becomes the only person to come to the aid of a group of refugees shipwrecked on the high seas, she is shown the limits of her importance and of the empathy of her cultural milieu. She is left slipping impotently from one nightmare to the next, and by the end she is forced to recognize that there is no way to counter the cruelties of real life. Only chance can save her.

Our Spring programme normally ends in April but as the Covid-19 lockdown continues and restrictions are still in place on how far we can venture from our home and the number of people we can socialise with, we will continue with our virtual cinema programme for the foreseeable future at our usual 8pm slot on Thursdays. This programme has been enabled by our screening partner Access Cinema, who are doing trojan work behind the scenes to source distributors and new films for us to show.

The distributors in turn share a percentage of the rental fee back to us, to ensure we receive this support, select our name in the dropdown box when making your purchase on the 606 Distribution site.

Remember to tag us and use our hashtag #SFSonline through any of our social media platforms to let us know you’re watching.
