The Settlers

Thursday 28th Mar

€9 / €7 (conc.)

Synopsis

In his searing directorial debut, Chilean director Felipe Gálvez Haberle frames the birth of his homeland through the singular, agonizing experience of a young mixed-race man named Segundo, who’s sent – alongside a reckless British lieutenant and an American mercenary – on a bloody expedition across the Tierra del Fuego archipelago.

Tasked with securing the vast state-appointed property of the rich landowner José Menendez to open a new trade route to the Atlantic, tensions rise in the group as it becomes clear their true mission is to murderously “remove” the indigenous population.

Using the talents of experienced and first-time actors, it is a tale told in three parts; an acclaimed frontier epic set against an immense, fertile territory.
