SFS collaborates with Adaptation Film Weekend

SFS teams up with Adaptation Film Weekend for a joint programme launch on Thursday 19th September with a screening of That They May Face The Rising Sun followed by Q&A with screenwriter Eamon Little
Sligo Film Society is teaming up with Adaptation Film Weekend this year for a joint programme launch. Our season of arthouse films at The Model Sligo commences on Thursday 19th September with the screening of That They May Face The Rising Sun followed by a Q+A with the film’s screenwriter Éamon Little, hosted by Johnny Gogan.

Éamon Little is a film-maker, radio documentary maker and screenwriter. A long-time collaborator with director Pat Collins, he was invited by Collins to adapt Rising Sun with him. The two had worked together back in 2005 on the documentary John McGahern – A Private World.

Bandit Films’ annual Adaptation Film Weekend takes place at the Glens Centre, Manorhamilton from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Now in it’s 11th year, the weekend features a packed programme of workshops and film screenings.

Flann O’Brien is the focus of this year’s weekend, celebrating the surreal writing of legendary Irish writer with a glimpse at the largely untapped cinematic potential of his writing. The programme also looks at ways that theatre can reach a potentially wider audience in the hands of a film director and, with the launch of the SLR Producers’ Network, will explore the potential of a new wave of filmmakers to build on the film, animation and tv work already being produced in the region.
