First film announced for Autumn/Winter 2024 programme!

SFS returns for Autumn/Winter 2024 on Thursday 19th September with a screening of That They May Face The Rising Sun followed by Q&A with screenwriter Eamon Little
We’re delighted to announce details of our opening film for our Autum/Winter programme. SFS returns on Thursday, 19 September, 2024 and we’re very excited to open with That They May Face the Rising Sun, the highly acclaimed adaptation of a John McGahern classic and his final novel by Irish director Pat Collins (Song of Granite, Silence). The screening is presented in collaboration with Adaptation Film Weekend who will join us on the night to launch their programme.
We will also be joined by the film’s screenwriter Eamon Little for a post screening Q+A session.

That They May Face The Rising Sun is a beautifully bittersweet portrait of a very particular time and place. It’s a perfectly-observed slice of life – full of humour and warmth, while also tenderly reflecting on the people and traditions that Ireland has lost.

Adaptation Film Weekend is places an emphasis on the potential of the wider region as a place of film production. The 2024 edition runs from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September in Manorhamilton.

The first part of our Autumn/Winter season will run from 19th September until 31st October with a programme of seven films. We will be unveiling those titles very soon – check back here to see what they are!
